SINGAPORE: Last year, a man named Muhammad Nabil Rashid was sentenced to 28 months and two weeks in jail for assaulting Malaysian actor Kamal Adli at the Singapore Expo. The incident occurred during a meet-and-greet session in March 2023.
In a shocking turn of events, Nabil, a sophisticated 34-year-old Singaporean, has been diagnosed with a rare and perplexing mental condition. According to the esteemed Institute of Mental Health psychiatrist, Nabil is believed to be afflicted with a peculiar form of delusional disorder, specifically the persecutory subtype. This condition has led him to harbor unfounded beliefs and engage in irrational behavior.
Furthermore, the psychiatrist has identified an additional affliction within Nabil’s complex psyche – an antisocial personality disorder. Such a diagnosis sheds light on the intricate layers of Nabil’s troubled mind, providing a glimpse into the depths of his psychological turmoil.
What happened?
Kamal, aged 36, participated in a celebrity meet-and-greet event at the Singapore Expo, Hall 5A on March 12, 2023.
Nabil, upon seeing the advertisement of his attendance on social media, decided to attend to assault the victim. Before heading to the Singapore Expo at Changi, he equipped himself with an extendable baton, donned a cap, and concealed his identity with a face mask.
Nabil showed up around 9:18 pm and called out Kamal’s name near the hall. Kamal, thinking Nabil wanted a photo, went over to him.
Suddenly, Nabil pulled out a baton from his pocket, extended it, and struck Kamal on the head, face, and arm.
Afterward, Nabil lowered his face mask, grinned, and left the scene. He was apprehended by the public and Kamal’s family before the police arrived to arrest him.
Both Nabil and Kamal were then taken to Changi General Hospital with police supervision.
Kamal had to get four stitches for a laceration and had abrasions on his left cheek.
Nabil underwent a psychiatric evaluation while in custody. During the assessment, he informed the psychiatrist that he had no personal acquaintance with Kamal, but claimed that he sought retribution against the celebrity for allegedly sexually assaulting a female family member. The psychiatrist observed that Nabil exhibited a “total absence of awareness regarding his condition” and declined to comply with medication recommendations despite persuasion. However, due to the evident threat he posed to Kamal, medication was eventually administered against his wishes.
