Malaysia has made a name for itself as a top-tier global education destination. It’s an achievement of a new milestone with the very first hosting of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit at Sunway University in Petaling Jaya. The summit happened from April 29 to May 1.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who officiated at the summit, highlighted the ministry will continue to prioritise the development of students and maintain universities remain focused on their respective roles.

The summit brought together more than 600 global educational leaders, delegates and academics from universities across Asia, the UK and the US.
Including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, the National University of Singapore, Monash University, North South University, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Toyo University, Macau University of Science and Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Nanjing University, Lancaster University and Arizona State University.

The delegates at the summit got a special welcome by global icon and world-renowned chef Gordan Ramsay, they are currently staying in residence at Sunway Resort Hotel.
The theme for THE Asia Universities Summit was “Bridging Frontiers: Changing the Landscape of Education in Asia.”
The topic revolves around how the economy and job market are continuously changing due to globalisation, This means that universities need to make sure their curricula match with current industry needs.
As part of the summit, there was an outstanding gala dinner was held at Sunway Resort Hotel to honour the winner of THE Awards Asia 2024. Her Majesty the Queen Of Malaysia Raja Zarith Sofiah, graced the event with her presence. This special event is held to recognise exceptional institutional achievements and to celebrate the diverse excellence in the higher education landscape.
This event is a great opportunity for us to highlight Malaysia’s impressive academic and research achievements and at the same time, foster meaningful dialogues with global institutions across the region.
