In the incident that occurred at 4.50 pm, a car travelling from Tawau to Semporna with six people on board tragically claimed the lives of a nine-month-old baby girl was identified as Haira Herwan and two women, Mariam Ali, 66, and Mashita Sabur, 24.

According to Tawau OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the three victims were declared dead the nine-month-old baby girl, Haira Herwan, at the Semporna Hospital. While the other three individuals in the vehicle, including the driver suffered serious injuries.
He also mentioned that the initial investigation suggests that the 31-year-old driver of the car lost control of the vehicle before it swerved into the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle that was travelling from Tawau towards Semporna.
Supt Farhan said the driver suffered a serious head injury and a broken rib, while two other passengers also suffered serious injuries.
The other two individuals in the incident are a seven-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries to the head, hands and a broken right thighbone, as well as a 10-year-old girl who sustained a serious head injury.
All three are admitted at the Semporna Hospital.
“The 46-year-old driver of the other car and his two passengers, who are both 24-year-old Chinese nationals, escaped with minor injuries,” Supt Farhan said.
It was learnt that they were on the way to Tawau Airport, and the two tourists were allowed to continue their journey back to China after the accident.
They took the driver of the second vehicle to the Semporna district police headquarters for further investigation.
They are investigating the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
