Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that no Israeli-based companies are operating in Malaysia. Since taking office, his administration has maintained a policy that bars Israeli companies from operating in the country, including the Israel cargo company Zim, which has been prohibited from entering Malaysia.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that since his government took charge, Israeli companies have been prohibited from operating in Malaysia.

“There are no Israeli companies registered in the country. We will not allow it,” he said.

Anwar Ibrahim noted that this follows a reversal of a decision that was made in 2002 under a former Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, which allowed Zim to operate in Malaysia until it was cancelled recently during Anwar’s term.

The prime minister mentioned this after the launch of the national anti-corruption strategy programme at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Malaysia Tightens Restrictions on Israeli Shipments

Additionally, Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently warned a port operator for allowing containers with the Zim logo to leave the port, which were then seen on highways. Anwar had earlier declared a ban on ships flying the Israeli flag and on cargo loading for Israel at Malaysian ports.

Furthermore, Bersatu International Bureau Chief Saifuddin Abdullah has called for a ban on Lockheed Martin and BED System from participating in the upcoming Natsec Asia 2024 exhibition due to concerns that their products are being used in conflict.

However, defence minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that Malaysia does not involve itself in the business practices of global companies.
