Kuala Lumpur: Shopper 'Escapes Death' After Escalator Malfunctions at Mid Valley Megamall

Kuala Lumpur: Parts of an escalator at Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur “popped out” due to a malfunction on June 28, according to a social media post.

A user uploaded the post on Xiaohongshu titled “Midvalley KL escape from death” on June 28 at 4:13 pm.

According to the caption of the post, written in Chinese, the user had used the shopping mall’s escalators earlier that day.

The caption said that when the person stepped on the escalator, there was a sudden loud noise and some parts “popped out” from the top of the escalator.

The social media user then went down the escalator with other shoppers, it added. According to the caption, no one was injured in the incident.

The user, who is still scared recalling the incident, reminded others to stay alert when using escalators and not listen to loud music so they can respond quickly if something goes wrong.

The post had about 2,500 likes as of 9pm on June 28. It also includes four photographs of the aftermath of the incident. At the top of the escalator, a step appears to have come loose. The cause of the malfunction is still not known.
