Malaysia: A total of 82 individuals out of 247 people suffered from severe food poisoning symptoms after eating breakfast at an Islamic Charity Program (Kamil) across the district of Gombak, verified by the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS)on June 8th, Saturday.In a food poisoning incident, 2 people including a 17-year-old boy, and a 19-month-old toddler girl sorrowfully lost their lives.
According to a statement by the JKNS State Health Director, the suspected cause of the food poisoning is fried bee hoon and egg yolks that had allegedly changed in appearance and taste, shared by Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin.
It is confirmed that 30 primary schools in the district participated in the Islamic Charity Program (Kamil), where the food was provided by an outside food vendor.
Updates On Food Poisoning Incident
Dr Ummi further stated “The main symptoms reported are diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, vomiting, and nausea. A total of 28 cases have received treatment as outpatients and no cases have been admitted to any wards.”
“A total of 2 cases were reported to have died without receiving any treatment from any health facility, involving a 17-year-old boy and a 19-month-old baby girl. Both victims ate food believed to have been brought home by family members,” she added.
To find out the true cause of the food poisoning incident, food samples from the incident day have been sent to the National Public Health Laboratory (MKAK) in Sungai Buloh.The investigation is still ongoing.
JKNS Extends Its Heartfelt Sympathies To The Victims’ Families
Dr Ummi emphasized, “JKNS also requests that the affected individuals who experience symptoms immediately seek treatment at any health facility to avoid unwanted food poisoning complications. Program organizers and members of the public need to be careful in choosing clean premises and food suppliers,”
Moreover, she conveyed, “JKNS also expresses its condolences to both families of the victims”.
