PETALING JAYA – A transnational drug trafficking ring has been dismantled after authorities seized a staggering 519kg of methamphetamine worth RM16.6 million in raids across Subang Jaya and Ampang last week, leaving communities both relieved and stunned by the scale of the operation.
Acting Director of Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali, revealed that two suspects—aged 21 and 33—were arrested while driving a vehicle in Subang Jaya on March 27. A search uncovered four sacks stuffed with 100 packages of meth on the front seat. “Further checks led us to a guesthouse, where 12 sacks holding 300 more packages were hidden,” he said, voice tense with urgency.
The suspects later guided police to a warehouse in Taman Bukit Permai, Ampang, where an additional 50 packages were seized. Mat Zani confirmed the syndicate had allegedly used rented guesthouses (priced at RM195 per night) as storage hubs before distributing drugs locally and abroad. “We believe they’ve been active since September 2024, smuggling narcotics from neighboring countries,” he added.
The two men, reportedly paid RM5,000 to RM10,000 per delivery, now face remand for 11 days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Residents expressed shock at the brazen operation. “This guesthouse was quiet—never imagined drugs were inside,” said a neighbor, clutching her child’s hand. Authorities estimate the seized meth could have fueled addiction for thousands, underscoring the bust’s lifesaving impact.
Investigations continue to unmask the syndicate’s masterminds. “We’re closing in,” Mat Zani vowed, as forensic teams work round-the-clock to trace the network’s roots.
