Singapore: All the crew members of Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight SQ321, which was hit by turbulence, have returned to Singapore from Bangkok, where their plane made an emergency landing.
“We can confirm that all crew members who were on board SQ321 have returned to Singapore,” said the airline in an update on Monday (May 27).
52 passengers from SQ321 remain in the Thai capital, of whom 34 are receiving medical treatment in hospital.
“Singapore Airlines has been in contact with passengers and crew members who were on SQ321, including those who are still in Bangkok. Where requested, we have facilitated travel to Bangkok for their families and loved ones,” said SIA.
The airline said the well-being of its passengers and staff was its “utmost priority.”
The Boeing 777-300ER was flying from London to Singapore with 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board when it encountered extreme turbulence on May 21.
The passengers and crew members were flung around the cabin, some hitting the ceiling. The chaos caused by the turbulence left one dead, and many injured, while some received brain and spinal cord injuries.
Geoff Kitchen, 73, a British passenger died, believed to be of a heart attack.
Five days after making an emergency landing in Bangkok, the plane returned to Singapore on Sunday.
“SIA is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities in the investigation into this incident,” said the airline on Monday.
Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said on Friday that investigators had obtained data from the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder and were currently examining it.
Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB), part of the Ministry of Transport, sent investigators to Bangkok to find out what happened. American investigators also visited Thailand.
