King of Malaysia, Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, and Queen of Malaysia, Majesty Raja Zarith Sofia arrived in Singapore on May 6 (Monday) for two days to visit the state of the republic.
This is the very first state visit since His Majesty’s rise to the federal throne on Jan 31 and is extended at the invitation of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
King Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah left from Istana Besar, Johor, at 9.45 am in a group with the company of two ministers in attendance and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Singapore Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
Their Majesties were also traveller with the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar.
State Welcome the King and Queen
Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah entered Singapore via Johor and were greeted on their arrival at The Istana, Singapore, at 10.45 am by Tharman and his wife, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam.
His Majesty then inspected the guard of honour, joined by the Singaporean President at the Ceremonial Plaza, The Istana.
When the State Welcome ceremony ends, Sultan Ibrahim will held a meeting with Tharman, which followed by a crowd of people with Singapore State Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who will step down on May 15.
Sultan Ibrahim went on a visit
In the evening, Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah will go to a State Banquet hosted by Tharman at The Palace.
On May 7 (Tuesday), the King went for the second day of the state visit with a people with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, with a visit to the Parliament building.
And, the Queen will be going to visit women’s and children’s hospitals here.
Sultan Ibrahim made it official by officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the project on November 22, 2022.
