After successfully implementing the QR code immigration clearance system in Singapore last month, travellers transmitting between Malaysia and Singapore are now waiting for the system to be adopted at the land border checkpoints. The QR code immigration system promises swift clearance thus saving travellers time and alleviating traffic congestion. 

Efficiency Enhancement for Travelers:

At present, travellers are required to undergo physical passport checks, resulting in delays and inefficiencies at land border checkpoints. A frequent traveller, Zulhairi Zulkifli praises the QR code system stating that it ensures a swift journey. Citing his personal experience, he stated that the system simply requires one to scan the QR code on their smartphone. This system saves time. especially when travelling in groups. 

Singapore’s Successful Implementation:

Last month, Singapore successfully adopted the QR code immigration clearance system at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. To efficiently use the system, travellers are required to generate their QR code on their smartphones before reaching the immigration counters. Now instead of their passport, travellers need to present the code generated

Johor’s Potential Adoption:

After the successful rollout of the system in Singapore, the chairman of Johor’s works, transport, infrastructure, and communication committee Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh has shown interest in the QR code system. After Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, he has scheduled meetings with concerned agencies in Singapore. The purpose of this meeting is the feasibility and benefits of adopting this new system in Johor.
