KUALA LUMPUR: The purported leaked information related to the investigation into the Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin murder case was not taken down from social media as of Monday afternoon.
The leaked information began circulating on Telegram and TikTok last Thursday after Zayn Rayyan’s parents were charged with neglecting the 6-year-old boy.
Checks on various social media platforms, including TikTok and Telegram, revealed that the content had not been removed.
A certain Telegram channel shared an improved version of the leaked information that has been converted into a portable document format. “We’ll give you a better version to read,” said the post.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on Sunday asked several social media platforms to delete the content.
Requests for Takedown Sent to Social Media Platforms
In a statement issued on June 15, MCMC said it had sent requests to operators of social media platforms, including TikTok and Telegram, to take down the related content.
Warning Against Sharing Unverified Information
“Sharing or spreading the alleged investigation information about the case is an irresponsible act that could interfere with the trial. MCMC reminds the public not to share unverified or false information,” it said.
The commission also advised social media users to delete posts or comments that could spark speculation about the case.
Legal Consequences for Offenders
“Sharing unverified or false information could be an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“Offenders can be fined up to RM50,000, imprisoned for up to one year, or both, with an additional fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction,” it added.

Edisi Siasat Leaks Probe Docs
Local watchdog Edisi Siasat reportedly shared investigation documents on this matter on his Telegram account on June 13, which have since circulated on social media.
Action could be taken against those involved in the leak of the documents as it is a legal issue, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said.
Parents Plead Not Guilty to Child Neglect
Zayn Rayyan’s parents on June 13 pleaded not guilty to a charge of child neglect before Judge Dr. Syahliza Warnoh.
The couple was charged under section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001, which is punishable under Section 31(1) of the same Act, and read in conjunction with Section 34 of the same Act, which, if found guilty, carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or 20 years imprisonment or both.
The crime was allegedly committed near Jalan PJU, Damansara Damai, between noon on December 5 and 9.55 pm on December 6 last year.
