Sg Bakap By-Election: Joohari Ariffin vs Abidin Ismail – Straight Fight Between Pakatan and Perikatan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sg Bakap by-election will witness a straight battle between Joohari Ariffin of Pakatan Harapan and Abidin Ismail of Perikatan Nasional.

The by-election for the state seat of Penang was called following the death of incumbent President Nor Zamri Latiff from stomach inflammation on May 24.

Abidin, a 56-year-old logistics executive, is Nor Zamri’s former associate, while Joohari was an educator and director of the northern branch of the Aminuddin Baki Institute.

Returning Officer Khairulnizam Hashim announced the candidates at Jawi Multipurpose Hall, Taman Desa Jawi, Nibong Tebal.

Nor Zamri, former Nibong Tebal PAS chief, won the seat in last August’s state election after defeating Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Che Rose with a majority of 1,563 votes.
