Man Flees Yishun Accident Scene; Police Found Drugs, Samurai Sword In Car

SINGAPORE —A man fled away from the scene after crashing his car into a lamp post in Yishun on the evening of June 20, leaving behind his 32-year-old female passenger.

On June 21st, the police stated that the female passenger was arrested for suspected consumption and possession of controlled drugs, possession of drug apparatus, and associating with persons carrying offensive weapons.

Police Seized Controlled Drugs And Weapons

The police were alerted to an incident at Block 746 Yishun Street 72 around 8.15 pm on June 20th. When officers reached the scene, a car sped off and subsequently skidded along Yishun Street 71, the police added.

The driver abandoned the vehicle after it crashed, and ran away on foot while the passenger was arrested by officers. Subsequently, the police found an assortment of weapons, as well as substances believed to be controlled drugs and drug paraphernalia, in the car. The weapons seized by the police included a 75cm-long samurai sword, a dagger, and a machete, according to the Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News.

Abandoned Car in Yishun Incident

Pictures of the abandoned vehicle the blue car parked on a grassy embankment, with its doors and boot open. The front of the car is visibly damaged, with its left headlight smashed against a lamp post. A variety of weapons can also be seen arranged on the sidewalk, near the car.

A resident named Mrs. Gu told Shin Min that she heard a loud noise and then saw a car driving onto the curb, with two police cars behind it. The 30-year-old said, “I saw that the airbags inside the car had been deployed, and the front of the car was also seriously damaged.”

Efforts to trace the fledaway driver are ongoing, the police said. Additionally, the police added that suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau.

Investigations are still ongoing.
