Hamzah Zainudin’s Son Charged With Receiving RM100,000 Bribe, Pleads Not Guilty

KUALA LUMPUR: The Son of opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Muhammad Faisal Hamzah, has pleaded not guilty to accepting bribes totalling RM100,000. Mahadi Abdul Jumaat, the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP), suggested bail of RM30,000 with one guarantor.

He also imposed additional conditions, including the surrender of Muhammad Faisal’s passport until the case is concluded, the reporting of Muhammad Faisal to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Kuala Lumpur from July and a ban on contacting witnesses.

Judge Rozina Ayob has set bail at RM25,000 with one guarantor.

Muhammad Faisal, 40, allegedly received a bribe of RM100,000 from Izmir Abd Hamid for influencing Heitech Padu Berhad to hire Rimba Merpati Sdn Bhd and Per My Solutions as marketing consultants.

These companies received a total commission of RM700,000 after Heitech Padu Berhad won a Companies Commission of Malaysia tender for RM33 million.

The accused requested a bail reduction, citing precarious employment and the obligation to travel abroad for two or three days once a month to run a hostel in Thailand. The hearing of the case is scheduled for July 5.

Muhammad Faisal was also charged in the Sessions Court with nine violations related to federal controlled goods regulations on April 5, 2023.

Muhammad Faisal and Azizul Abdul Halim, both directors of Rimba Merpati Sdn Bhd, were accused of allegedly making false statements by creating fake invoices for the sale of subsidized cooking oil to a local retailer.
