A formal apology has been released by SM Entertainment for NCT member Renjun’s mistake on the private messaging app Bubble.
The Incident
Renjun of NCT DREAM is renowned for storming out at anyone who violate his and his bandmates’ privacy, especially sasaeng. The K-pop star recently called out an anti-fan for disclosing personal information, giving them the taste of their own medicine.
The NCT DREAM member disclosed a phone number on Bubble app on June 20. He said in the follow-up message that he is releasing this number since the caller is bothering him and violating his privacy.
Furthermore, fans disclosed that not only did this person obtain Renjun’s contact details, but they also made the information public, seriously jeopardising the privacy of the K-pop sensation and his bandmates.
While many NCT DREAM supporters were pleased to see the sasaeng (anti-fan) punished for their own antics, many others blamed SM Entertainment, the group’s management company. Supporters retaliated against the corporation for failing to shield its artists from these kinds of stalkers, who pose a serious risk to the celebrities’ private life.
SM Entertainment’s Statement
“Hello, this is SM Entertainment.
One June 20, NCT member Renjun mistakenly exposed the phone number of an unknown person on a fan communication platform, believing that the number belonged to a sasaeng. SM Entertainment would like to sincerely apologize on Renjun’s behalf for this mistake and for inflicting damages on the victim.
Immediately after receiving word that the victim had visited a regional police station to inquire about this incident, SM Entertainment contacted the victim through the investigators to offer an apology. Renjun’s Bubble message has also been removed. We will continue our efforts to ensure that there are no further damages, and we ask that everyone refrain from contacting the victim using any means from now on.
Renjun is currently deeply reflecting on his mistake and the consequences that followed. SM Entertainment also apologizes for failing to take care of our artist’s actions.
Once again, we apologize to the victim as well as many others who were concerned over this incident.”
