Kim Ji Hun Opens Up About His Royal Role in "The Haunted Palace" – A Must-Watch Fantasy Romance!

Seoul, South Korea – Actor Kim Ji Hun is gearing up for his grand return to historical dramas with The Haunted Palace, and fans couldn’t be more excited! In a recent interview, the star spilled the beans on his character, the intense preparation, and his dynamic with co-stars Yook Sungjae and Kim Ji Yeon.

Why “The Haunted Palace”?

Marking his first historical drama in 15 years, Kim Ji Hun admitted he couldn’t resist the script. “I trusted Director Yoon Sung Sik after working together on ‘Tower of Babel,’” he shared. “Plus, playing a king? That’s a challenge I couldn’t pass up!”

In the drama, he stars as King Yi Jeong, a ruler caught in a supernatural battle against the vengeful Eight Feet Tall spirit. With the help of his loyal servant (Yook Sungjae) and a fierce shaman (Kim Ji Yeon), he fights to protect his kingdom—and his family.

Bringing a King to Life

Playing royalty for the first time since his debut, Kim Ji Hun confessed he was “a little nervous.” But after seeing early reactions, he’s relieved—and thrilled. “People say I fit the role well, which makes me so happy!”

His biggest focus? The voice. “I wanted dignity but without the usual historical drama stiffness,” he explained. Countless hours of vocal training and script analysis went into perfecting Yi Jeong’s layered personality—wise yet lonely, powerful yet vulnerable.

Action, Romance & Bromance

Fans can expect heart-pounding action, too. “There’s a major fight scene later on,” Kim Ji Hun revealed. “I pushed myself so hard, I felt like I had internal injuries. My whole body ached for a month!”

But it’s not all intensity—the chemistry between the cast brings plenty of laughs. He especially praised Yook Sungjae’s comedic chops. “Sungjae’s timing is perfect! He takes my suggestions and makes them even funnier.”

Their on-screen bond? A bromance for the ages. “Our characters break social hierarchy, and off-camera, we improvised a lot. The script didn’t have half the charm we created together!”

What Makes This Drama Special?

The Haunted Palace blends fantasy, romance, and horror in a way that feels fresh. “It’s got everything—comedy, chills, action, and even a love story,” Kim Ji Hun teased. “But most of all, I hope viewers connect with the king’s emotional journey.”

With its unique mix of genres and powerhouse cast, this is one drama you won’t want to miss!
