Totally Spies, an animated series about a group of girl spies, returns for a seventh season and will be based in Singapore this time.
The show focuses on the spy activities of teenage girls Sam, Alex and Clover and their new boss Zerlina Lewis. They work for the World Organization of Human Protection, known as Woohp, to carry out secret missions to save the world from catastrophes.
The cartoon series airs in more than 100 countries and shows girls using high-tech spy devices built into makeup tools, such as a hand-held mirror, which is actually a communication device.
In the YouTube trailer for season 7, a scene shows the bayside view of Singapore’s Central Business District, with iconic landmarks such as the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, the ArtScience Museum and the Singapore Flyer.
In the trailer, Zerlina can be seen telling the three young heroines about the appearance of “strange and frightening creatures all over Singapore.”
The seventh season aired on May 12 on the French television channel Gulli. It will air internationally on Cartoon Network and Discovery Kids at a later date that has yet to be announced.
Previous seasons have featured places such as India, France, England, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada, Africa, and China. This appears to be the first time Singapore has been used as a location. Singapore has also appeared in other animated series.
In 2021, the popular Indian animated series Chhota Bheem released a season set in Singapore. In the episodes, the main characters, children on a trip to Singapore, explored the island city-state and immersed themselves in the local culture.
Totally Spies first aired in November 2001 and has since become a global hit with the launch of book series, games and movies.
