The Suspect’s Shoes are a Match with the Footprints Found at the Scene of the Crime.

The suspect shoes matched a footprint that was found the crime scene

Mitchell Ong, the murder suspect, was found wearing a unique set of sports sneakers that perfectly matched the footprints discovered at the crime scene in Spain.

On April 23, La Verdad de Murcia, a Spanish media outlet, stated that the Civil Guard had gathered soil samples from the sneakers to compare them with the sandstone found at the crime scene. The victim, a 39-year-old woman, was discovered with 30 stab wounds close to a lorry parking area in the town of Abanilla, while she was traveling alone.

Statement

According to a report by La Verdad de Murcia, the sneakers were discovered in Ong’s hotel room, located approximately 70 km from the location where Fang’s body was discovered. These sneakers caught attention due to their significant size (European size 48.5) and the expensive price tag of €935 (RM4,768), as stated on the luxury brand platform farfetch.com.

The 43-year-old Singaporean was remanded by a Spanish court judge on April 19, who cited in court documents that the individual’s lack of roots in Spain makes them a flight risk.

She mentioned that he possesses the financial resources to depart the nation, citing the €3,760 (RM19,175) and US$1,000 (RM4,776) that were confiscated in his hotel room during his apprehension on April 16.

Court’s Decision

According to the judge, based on data obtained from mobile phone operators, it was unequivocal that the two Singaporeans were present in the same location on the day of the crime.

On April 20, La Verdad de Murcia reported that Ong was also found to have Fang’s phone in his possession.

Spanish authorities disclosed that a dark vehicle, believed to have picked up Fang, who was last spotted at her hotel in Xabia on April 9 at 8.45 pm local time, yielded additional information. Upon identifying the registration information, they followed the car’s path and discovered that it had journeyed from a hotel in Alicante, passed through Xabia, and eventually reached the town of Abanilla.Ong declined to give evidence in court on April 19.

According to La Verdad de Murcia, Ong and Fang had known each other before, but their relationship is still not clear. The report mentioned that Fang was engaged in investments and had recently sent money to an unknown third party.

Fang’s remains are expected to be sent back to Singapore from Spain this week once the necessary documents, including a death certificate and embalming certificate, have been obtained, as confirmed by her relatives to CNA on April 22.

Fang departed from Singapore to Spain on April 4 and was scheduled to come back on April 12. However, she became unreachable on April 10.

According to reports from Spanish media, a preliminary autopsy report revealed that her death was caused by knife wounds and head trauma. This information was reported by The Straits Times/ANN.
