Saiyidah Aisyah represents Singapore on the biggest stage by competing in the women’s 2,000-meter lightweight single sculls at the Asian and Oceania Continental Qualification Regatta in Chungju, South Korea, on Sunday, April 21. She has been in the Olympic Games for 8 years because of her talent and the struggle she has put in to come to this day.
With a 7-minute, 59.06-second time, she finished outside the top-five spots that are needed to get her place at the July 26–August 11 upcoming Paris Olympics.
Saiyidah Aisyah: Pioneering Singaporean Rower’s Journey to the Paris Olympics
Saiyidah made history in 2016 by becoming the first Singaporean rower to qualify for the Olympics. Aisyah won the SEA Games gold medal in 2013 and is among the several national athletes. And join Singapore athletes who have qualified for the Paris Olympics, which also include the Asian Games 200m champions.
While 36 years old, she finished sixth out of six competitors and also competed with the Japanese competitor, who finished second in the event of qualification contention.
In the quadrennial event, Kayaker Stephenie Chen earned a spot for Singapore on April 20.
Singapore Athletes Secure Spots in Paris Games
Singapore is also represented in swimming (Jonathan Tan, Letitia Sim, Levenia Sim, Quah Ting Wen, and Quah Jing Wen), athletics (Shanti Pereira), sailing (Maximilian Maeder and Rayan Lo), equestrian (Caroline Chew), and fencing (Amita Berthier).
On Saturday, Kayaker Stephenie Chen punched her ticket for Paris after finishing third in the women’s K1 500m at the ACC Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe Asian Championships, which got her a chance in the Asian Qualifier for this year’s Games.
Saiyidah Aisyah Mohamed Rafa’ee was born on April 20, 1988. She is known as a Singaporean rower. She placed 23rd in the single women’s single sculls at the 2016 Olympics, which made her the rower woman of Singapore.
