SHAH ALAM May 3- According to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the majority of family members and next of kin who are part of the process of relocating 90 graves in the Klang Strait Muslim Cemetery have agreed with the decision to exhume and move the graves.
He mentioned that the state government, along with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and the local authorities, are currently focused on obtaining an agreement from the remaining next of kin to proceed with the construction of the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project in the area.
The discussions will continue with all parties involved, as the majority have already given their consent. For those next of kin who have not agreed, an additional week will be given to engage in discussions with JAIS, local authorities, and ECRL. This statement was made by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari during a press conference held at Bangunan Wisma Dewan Negeri Selangor.
What They Discussed?
He discussed the media reports indicating that some relatives and family members were still against the exhumation and relocation of the graves following a meeting with JAIS on Wednesday.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Amirudin had announced the postponement of the grave excavation and relocation, which was initially planned for Wednesday, to allow for the notification and hearing process for the remaining 45 next of kin.
Additionally, Amirudin mentioned that the state government aims to attract around 30,000 local and international visitors to the Turath Islami Festival at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque from May 26 to June 2, 2024.
The festival, now in its second year, is dedicated to revitalizing and promoting Islamic heritage in Selangor. It will feature the participation of two renowned scholars, the former Grand Mufti of Egypt, Maulana Al-Imam Dr. Ali Jum’ah, and Habib Umar Hafiz from around the world.
Alongside these distinguished scholars, 23 other scholars from neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore will also be present, indicating a significant increase in the expected number of attendees compared to the previous year’s 10,000 visitors.
The Chief Minister, Amirudin, emphasized that the organization of this festival underscores the Selangor state government’s dedication to preserving and promoting Islamic heritage. The event will feature 12 main activities, including a study of the Forty Hadith book by Imam Nawawi, led by Al-Imam Dr. Ali Jum’ah, and an international seminar on the book Riyadhu al-Solihin.
