SKANDAR PUTERI, Johor: A 31-year-old Singaporean motorcyclist died after his motorbike collided with a car in Malaysia while turning on the Second Link Expressway on 8th June, Saturday. According to China Press, the victim had been traveling towards Johor Bahru at the 16km mark of the Second Link around midnight.
Oriental Daily News reported that the victim’s Yamaha motorbike collided with a Proton Saga car making a U-turn around 12.20 am on Saturday. When two vehicles collided, the bike subsequently caught fire. The Singaporean man who had sustained severe head injuries, died at the scene.
Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan said, “The investigation revealed that the car driver’s U-turn was permitted as he is a project supervisor for road repair works … The U-turn was made to reach another repair site northbound.”
“The victim’s body was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital.”
Kumarasan also added that a 33-year-old male driver and his 40-year-old male passenger were unharmed in the car crash.
On Saturday, Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) posted on its Facebook page at 12.15 am that there had been a traffic accident along the Second Link Bridge after Tuas Checkpoint in the wee hours of Saturday and departure clearance had been put on hold until the scene was cleared.
On the Same Day at 1 am, ICA updated through a Facebook post that the accident had been cleared and all lanes were operational. A video shared on the Singapore Roads Accident.com Facebook page shows a person lying in the middle of the road, with traffic stopped on two out of three lanes of the bridge.
The case was under investigation.
