SINGAPORE: The Spanish Civil Guard has recently obtained an additional piece of evidence to further support their case against Mitchell Ong, a Singaporean national who is suspected of being involved in the murder of his fellow countrywoman, Audrey Fang.
The authorities have been working diligently to gather as much evidence as possible to ensure a fair and just trial. The investigation is ongoing, and the Spanish Civil Guard is committed to leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.
Car got Captured
A rental car driven by Ong was captured by surveillance cameras at the location where Ms. Fang’s body was discovered, according to a Spanish newspaper report on Wednesday (Apr. 24).
During a solo trip to Spain on April 9, Ms. Fang left her belongings at her hotel and has not been heard from since.
According to Spanish online newspaper EI Espanol, the chief inspector of the local police division came across the 39-year-old bodies with 30 stab wounds the next day while he was on his way to breakfast at a restaurant near the RM-422 highway in the town of Abanilla.
A preliminary autopsy report found that a knife wound and head trauma were the causes of her death, according to the Spanish daily La Verdad de Murcia. Ong was arrested in Alicante on April 16 and appeared in court three days later.
Nissan Qashqai was Caught on CCTV
On April 9 at 11:28 pm, a grey Nissan Qashqai was caught on CCTV entering the parking lot of Los Collares restaurant via the RM-422 highway, as reported by La Verdad.
The car stopped by an almond grave and remained in that same spot for 18 minutes until 11:46 pm, when it left in the same direction it came from. Ms. Fang’s body was found in the grove on April 10.
Police praised the Qashqai to a rental company identified as the person who rented the car on April 3. It was still in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Authorities have confirmed that Ong took a specific route from his hotel in Alicante to Abanilla on April 9th. Footage was obtained to verify this. The Loss Collares restaurant, which is linked to the case, is approximately 70 km away from Alicante and an hour’s drive. A newspaper reported that the $1,000 Nike sneakers found in Ong’s hotel room matched footprints at the crime scene.
The civil guard, in their investigation of the recent case, has collected a sample of soil that was found embedded in the sole. They have sent this sample to the laboratory for further analysis to determine if it matches the soil found on Ms. Fang’s body.
Additionally, the authorities are also looking to compare the aforementioned soil sample with the sandstone that was discovered in the Abanilla area. This comparison will likely provide valuable insights for the investigation and aid the authorities in identifying any potential leads.
