Kuala Lumpur: Life has become a lot easier for Malaysians who want to enter Singapore as the public can now eliminate the hassle of immigration by simply showing a QR code at immigration counters.
Malaysia’s Immigration Ministry said on its Facebook page that starting June 1, travellers crossing the border can register their arrival digitally through the new MyTRIP feature on the MySejahtera app.
The immigration authority hopes to reduce waiting times by at least 50% with the new service, making the process much smoother and reducing congestion at checkpoints.
However, QR code systems are currently only available at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex for those entering Singapore by bus and motorbike. This will be the first implementation phase under a proof-of-concept phase, which is expected to last until August 31, 2024. Soon after, the department hopes to extend the system to other border checkpoints and ultimately other modes.
How To Access MySejahtera MyTRIP Feature
To access the MyTRIP functionality, simply go to the home page of the MySejaterah app.
You will then be asked to link your passport to the feature before a QR code can be generated.
And while this may be a great initiative, some will feel reassured that it is optional and that travellers can always choose to go through immigration via the counters or through the automatic gates.
Notably, the QR code can be created at any time before clearing immigration and is exclusive to the passport holder. However, to ensure the security of the information of travellers, a screenshot of the QR code is not required and must be created from within the app itself.
Also, note that this QR code is only generated for the registered MySejahtera user and not for other family members who may have registered themselves during the Covid-19 pandemic.
