Petaling Jaya: The parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, the six-year-old autistic boy murdered in December, have been arrested by the police.
Hussein Omar Khan, the Selangor police chief, confirmed the development to Malaysiakini. He said that police made the arrests after finding new leads in the case.
Arrests and Investigation Details
“I confirm that police have arrested the parents. We are applying for remand orders for them this morning. They were arrested based on intelligence that police have been gathering since the day of the incident. The parents were arrested to facilitate the investigation,” he told Malaysiakini.
The case is still being investigated under Section 302 for murder, said Hussein.
Several media reports said that police arrested the child’s parents in Puncak Alam on Friday morning.
Zayn Rayyan’s Murder Case
Six-year-old Zayn Rayyan who had autism was found dead along a river about 200m from his home in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, around 10pm on December 6.
A member of a search party formed to find the boy discovered his body. The child reportedly went missing on the afternoon of December 5.
Police had initially suspected that the child had drowned. However, the investigation was reclassified as murder after the post-mortem report revealed that he was strangled.
