MALAYSIA: A wild tiger was hit and killed by a silver-coloured car while crossing the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway near Lentang in the early morning of 16th May around 1:20 am, Thursday.
Dashcam footage from the car recorded the sudden and surprising moment when the 103kg wild tiger appeared out of nowhere from the right side of the car and was hit by it. The footage showed the dead body of the tiger, reported to be around 130kg, lying on the road surface following the collision. A silver-coloured car that hit the tiger, appeared to have serious damage to its front bumper and hood.
The Malayan tiger is believed to be coming from the Bukit Tinggi forest reserve in Bentong, according to the Director of the Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), Rozidan Md Yasin.
The director-general of Perhilitan, Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim, highlighted that the animal was about five years old based on the size of the dead body. He added that authorities are still investigating the incident, and the dead body has been sent for an autopsy to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Sungkai, Perak.
“There are still some wild tigers surviving in the forest reserves near the location. The incident is very sad as the number of tigers in the country is gradually declining,” Abdul Kadir was quoted as saying.
This is the third vehicle collision case involving Malayan tigers in the past year, added report. On March 21, a tiger was killed while attempting to cross the West Coast Expressway at the Trong-Beruas stretch.
