Was Bullying Behind Kajang Student's Fall From School Building? Ministry Probes Incident

Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia: The Education Ministry is carrying out an internal investigation into the incident involving a student from Kajang, Selangor, who was seriously injured after reportedly falling from the fifth floor of a building on Friday and died on Saturday.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that the ministry has asked authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident, including an investigation into potential acts of bullying.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the school community. This is deeply distressing, particularly because it occurred at school. Safety remains our utmost priority, and we are committed to ensuring stringent safety measures in schools,” she told reporters after attending a programme at Taman Puteri Gunung, Nibong Tebal on Sunday.

The Nibong Tebal MP for highlighted that the ministry has initiated support measures, including psychosocial counselling, to help the victim’s family, friends and school community.

She added that the ministry is intensifying its efforts to comprehensively address bullying issues at all levels of education, highlighting existing policies and regulations to address such incidents involving school students.

It was earlier reported that a 13-year-old student, seriously injured after falling from the fifth floor of a school building, died at Kajang hospital Saturday morning.

Kajang Police Chief Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that the victim died at 2:30 am during treatment and added that the case, classified as a sudden death, was being investigated under section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2000.
