JOHOR BARU: Five relatives of the suspect involved in the deadly attack on Ulu Tiram Police Station were charged in the Sessions Court on Wednesday with conspiracy to promote acts of terrorism.
The accused was charged with a total of nine separate charges related to encouraging and cultivating the ideology of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
Identities Of The Accused
The accused have been identified as Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 62, his Singaporean wife Rosna Jantan, 59, and their three children Radin Romyullah, 34, Farhah Sobrina, 23, and Mariah, 19.
The five family members arrived at the court premises in separate vehicles, under the close surveillance of counter-terrorism personnel from the Special Branch.
The accused who had no legal representative, were arraigned before trial court judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim.
The Chargesheet
According to the charge sheet, the family’s father Radin Imran, who is unemployed, faced four charges under Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code (Act 574).
In his first charge, Radin Imran has been accused of promoting the ideology of the terrorist group IS between late 2014 and May 17 this year at a house on Jalan Rabani in Kampung Sungai Tiram. He allegedly instilled the ideology to the members of his family, including the slain Ulu Tiram police station attacker Radin Luqman, 21.
Radin Imran’s crime was framed under Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code, which is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine upon conviction.
In his second charge, Radin Imran was accused of supporting terrorist acts by storing four self-made air rifles for ISIS activities at the same location at around 10:45 am on May 17.
The offence was classified under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code, which is punishable by life imprisonment up to 40 years or a fine. This also includes the confiscation of property used or intended to be used to commit the crime.
In his third charge, Radin Imran was accused of taking the oath of allegiance (baayah) to the leader of the IS terrorist group Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi in late 2014 and at the same location.
Abu Bakar was an Iraqi militant who served as ISIS’s first caliph from 2014 until his death in 2019.
For this offence, Radin Imran was charged under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment not exceeding 40 years or a fine. This includes the confiscation of property used or intended to be used to commit the crime.
In the fourth and fourth charge, Radin Imran was allegedly in possession of a book entitled “Hakikat Islam & Hakikat Syirik” by Abu Sulaiman Aman Abdurrahman, which is related to the IS terrorist group at the same location on May 17 and May 19 between 10.45am and 2.30pm.
His offense was charged under section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of seven years’ imprisonment or a fine and confiscation of printed materials.
Meanwhile, the second accused Radin Romyullah was charged with pledging his oath of allegiance to Abu Bakar (Al-Baghdadi) and in possession of a external hard disc drive containing materials related to IS and the group’s activities.

The offences were charged under section 130J(1)(a) and section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code. Radin Romyullah faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison or a fine for the first offence and a maximum sentence of seven years in prison with a fine for a second offence.
In the same court, the mother of the family, Rosna, and her two daughters, Farhah Sobrina and Mariah, were charged with intentionally failing to provide information about crimes linked to terrorist ideology.
The three were also accused of committing the crime at the same location between April 2017 and May 17. If convicted, they face a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a fine.
No Bail Offered
The family understood the charges against them and Che Wan Zaidi set July 31 as the date for the case remention.
The court did not offer bail and Che Wan Zaidi advised the accused to hire a lawyer to represent them in these cases.
The prosecution was represented by deputy prosecutors Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam and Fazeedah Faik.
Ulu Tiram Police Station Attack
On May 17, the lone shooter was killed following an unprovoked attack on the Ulu Tiram police station.
In the incident that occurred at 2:45 am, police officers Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, died after being attacked by a man armed with a machete, while Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan was injured after being shot.
