PUTRAJAYA May 13-The Immigration Department (JIM) and Home Ministry (KDN) are currently investigating the possibility of introducing a quick response (QR) code system at various key entry points across the nation in order to tackle congestion problems.
According to Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, the director-general of Immigration, extensive research has been conducted on the utilization of QR codes at entry points throughout the country. The ongoing phase is primarily centered around conducting tests to evaluate its effectiveness.
What is KDN ?
He mentioned that KDN would reveal information regarding the testing phase at a later date.
“Our priority is to tackle congestion at the primary entry points of the nation.
“This project is currently in its initial phase and has not been put into action yet, but KDN will disclose the specifics at a later time,” he informed during a press briefing held today.
On December 3rd, the Johor state government put forward a suggestion to the federal government, urging them to contemplate the implementation of a digital QR Code system, inspired by Singapore’s model, to facilitate movement in and out of the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Johor.
This proposal was one of three initiatives proposed by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, aimed at ensuring the triumph of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
Ruslin emphasized that JIM and KDN are fully dedicated to implementing ongoing measures to tackle congestion at the nation’s entry points, including both Johor Bahru and air entry points.
He stated that the main objective is to establish a streamlined and efficient process that expedites clearance procedures while maintaining utmost security standards.
