KUALA TERENGGANU: A scantily clad party held at a private resort in Pulau Lang Tengah (Terengganu) recently has drawn a backlash from the state government.
Several photographs from the night party, dubbed the “Aloha Party,” hit social media, angering officials who claimed the party did not meet Terengganu’s tourism guidelines.
The controversial party was reportedly held to celebrate “520,” known as the unofficial Valentine’s Day in China.
Meanwhile, the owner of the resort in Kuala Nerus has been fined RM25,000 for hosting a wild party at the premises.
Datuk Razali Idris the chairman of the Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee said the compound was issued for violation of Section 6(1) of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 2002.
He met the owner and manager of Summer, Bay Resort in Wisma Darul Iman and said that although it was a private party held only for resort guests, it violated the law.
It was also discovered that no permission was obtained from either the local authorities or the police to hold the party.
Following the incident, Razali, the Kijal MP, said the state government would step up monitoring of resorts to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations by their owners.
“We will also review the state’s entertainment enactment to raise the compound rate,” he added.
Meanwhile, Datuk Chong Fah Ming. the general manager of the resort, has apologized to the state government and the people of Terengganu for the uproar.
Several photographs and posters purporting to show a “wild party” at the resort went viral on social media a few days ago.
On May 20, the “Aloha Party” was allegedly held, during which women danced in beachwears.
