After the launch of smart #1 late last year, the smart #3 was recently unveiled at the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show. Like its sibling, the three variants of the car will be available locally: Pro, Premium and Brabus.
The smart #3 shares some features with smart #1, including being built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform. With a length of 4,400 mm, a width of 1,844 mm and a height of 1,556 mm, it is the slightly larger model of the two.
As for the performance data: both the smart #3 Pro and the Premium have a rear electric motor that produces 272PS of max power and 343 Nm of peak torque. It hits 100kmph in 5.8 seconds and the top speed is 180 kmph. The Brabus model is equipped with a dual AWD motor that churns out 428HP (315 kW) of max power and 543 Nm of peak torque. This reduces the 0-100 km/h acceleration time to 3.7 seconds.
In terms of range, the base Smart N°3 has a WLTP range of 325 km, provided by the 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The charging capacity of this battery is 7.4 kW AC and 130 kW DC. Instead, the premium model is powered by a 66 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NMC) battery, allowing a maximum range of 455 km. Although the Brabus model has the same battery as the Premium model, the maximum range is slightly lower, 415 km. However, these batteries charge faster with 22 kW AC and 150 kW DC.
As for interior features and specifications, the base Pro model of the #3 smart starts with a 12.8-inch central display, a 9.2-inch instrument cluster, LED headlights that the company calls CyberSpark, a panoramic glass sunroof, a powered tailgate and 19 1/2-inch wheels.
The premium version of the smart #3 goes even further and also has a 10-inch heads-up display, high beam assist for the headlights and even automatic parking assist feature. There’s also the 13-speaker Beats audio system, which rounds out the list of extras. Finally, the Brabus model improves the sporty look with a more prominent rear spoiler, 20-inch wheels and a launch control mode called Rocket Launch Mode.
However, with the launch of the smart 3#, the company is yet to announce the prices of the two variants. Instead, the company says the electric car is available for booking now and the first 333 customers can receive gifts worth up to RM1,500, against a refundable deposit of RM1,000.
On the brand’s UK site you can find prices for all three models, as well as a Pro Plus model that has yet to be announced for the local market. Here, the Pro, Premium and Brabus models have starting prices of GBP 32,950 (~RM 196,617), GBP 39,950 (~RM 238,387) and GBP 45,450 (~RM 271,206) respectively.
