Sarawak, Malaysia: The Sarawak state government plans to introduce Canada’s latest mining technology to uncover the state’s precious metal resources, estimated at more than RM1.25 trillion.
This development comes after the state Geological Department recently discovered more areas containing numerous minerals, including gold, bauxite and rare materials of earth.
Potential For More
Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, was quoted as saying that there is also a possibility of discovering more areas of land containing such large deposits of valuable resources.
“A survey by state geological experts on 32 percent of our state land area already found an estimated RM1.25 trillion worth of minerals. These minerals included gold, rare earth, bauxite and other precious metals and there is enormous potential for more discoveries,” he said On Tuesday, as reported by The Vibes.
The State has discovered significant gold deposits in Sri Aman district, Awang Tengah said. Until now, the metal has only been found in the Bau region.
What’s The State Govt’s Plan?
The Bukit Sari MP, who has just completed a trip to Canada where he learned about the mining experience, said the state is considering using Canadian technology in Sarawak.
“We in Sarawak will utilise their technology here,” he reportedly said.
Awang Tengah added that Sarawak plans to conduct a similar study on another 30 per cent of the state’s land area.
Since the state has a huge land area of 12.4 million hectares, he said they are confident of finding more.
