Sarawak DAP Chief Supporting GPS Minister for Upgradation of Kuching Airport

Chairman Chong Cheing has decided to support the GPS Transport Ministry, led by Anthony Loke, in upgrading Kuching Airport. State Tourism, the creative industry, and performing arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah have requested an urgent upgrade for the Kuching International Airport( KIA). 

for giving it a proper new face, so every tourist will have all the facilities. According to Chairman Chong Cheing, airports are the first impression given to any tourist visiting a destination in the country, and he fully agreed with Karim that Kuching International Airport needs to upgrade its facilities to be better than other international airports in the country.

Karim’s Statement

“As Sarawak shall be hosting many major and international events in the next few months, it is of utmost urgency that the facilities at Kuching Airport need to be upgraded. Tourists and visitors coming to Saeawak had a good first impression.”

Chong Cheing responded

“This is the rapid growth of tourist arrivals, so it is time for KIA to be extended to serve the expected increase in our tourist arrivals.” The last time there was any upgrading work or major extension was in 2003, 20 years ago.

“In addition to upgrading the existing facilities, I will urge the federal ministry to allocate capital expenditures for the airport.”. He is hoping that the ministry will support them in upgrading the airport. 

He also said that the many operators of airports in the country, Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB), not only focus on Kuala Lumpur International, but they also consider Kuching International Airport, which is also an international airport.

On April 17, there was a press conference where people expressed that Kuching Airport should have quality facilities such as good toilets, check-in counters, and baggage check-out. He admitted that the facilities of the Kuching airport toilets and the services to passengers are below expectations.
