In a recent statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the Kyrgyz government officially requested in the meeting that Malaysia appoint an adviser to the republic.
That would be a great help to the Kyrgyz government that an adviser working closely with the government and assist them, “… meaning, when they want to negotiate issues such as privatisation, hydro projects, highways, or gold mining, for example, they would ask us to give advice and share our experiences to assist,” he said
Prime Minister Anwar shared the information in a press conference with the Malaysian media about his two-day visit to the Kyrgyz Republic. Anwar started his visit by today at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov.
He also mentioned that the request of the Kyrgyz Republic would be discussed at the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
“The Kyrgyz government has expressed a keen interest in benefiting from Malaysia’s experience in economic development, governance, and administrative reforms,” said PM Anwar.
The prime minister sees the potential of appointing an adviser not only as a way to strengthen bilateral relations but also as a chance for Malaysian investors to explore the numerous areas of cooperation between the two countries.
What did PM Anwar say?
Anwar mentioned that sectors in Malaysia such as halal and Lembaga Tabung Haji have the attention of the Kyrgyz Republic. They are interested in gaining details about haj management and the administrative management of Tabung Haji.
He said this also shows that the Kyrgyz Republic, a Muslim-majority country that was previously part of the Soviet Union, highly respects Malaysia as an Islamic country and they are interested in following some of Malaysia’s implementation methods and reforms.
Regarding tourism, the Prime Minister said the immense potential for enhancing this sector between Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic., as both countries have unique attractions of their own.
“The Kyrgyz Republic has mountainous areas, while its people are very interested in forest and beach areas in our country,” he said.
“There is strategic importance here. Firstly, it enjoys the advantage of being close to Russia and China. Their (Central Asian countries) intelligence and perspectives help us as a developing country,” He said.
About the cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic, which began in 1992, Anwar said it must be strengthened as it brings significant benefits to the country.
