Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, the DAP central executive committee member, has warned his party against copying MCA’s race-exclusive approach and moving firmly beyond solely focusing on one race.
Emphasising the importance of DAP’s role in the coalition government, Sheikh Umar called on the party to defend all Malaysians regardless of their religious or racial backgrounds.
“DAP must extend its support beyond race and religion. DAP is not MCA 2.0,” he said.
Highlighting the party’s ethos of fighting for all Malaysians, Sheikh Umar cited the example of Jementah assemblyperson Ng Kor Sim, who chose DAP over MCA because of its inclusive approach.
Affirming his belief in DAP fighting for all, regardless of ethnicity, he shared how Ng rejected her father’s suggestion to join MCA
He also mentioned MCA’s statement in which it criticised DAP and the refusal to assist the party during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong has raised questions on why his party required to support DAP in the by-election as it had been insulting the MCA for a long.
Wee shared a TikTok video of DAP’s secretary-general Anthony Loke, in which he was heard saying that he doesn’t like MCA and called it a “taukeh party”.
MCA had stated on April 19 that it would not campaign for the candidates of Pakatan Harapan in the by-election.
Pang Sock Tao, Harapan’s candidate from DAP, won in Kuala Kubu Baharu with a majority of 3,869 votes, without MCA’s support.
He emerged victorious defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia candidate Hafizah Zainudin, and independent Nyau Ke Xin.
