KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have declared an end to their personal disputes and defamation suits against each other.
In a joint statement posted on their Facebook pages, they explained that the decision was made after considering the public impact of the suit, the recommendation of the High Court judge, and the current situation in the country, especially the well-being of the people.
Furthermore, they said in the statement that they agreed to make no further statements on the matter and hoped the decision would be accepted and respected by all parties.
“Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin hope this matter will not be used in a way that could disrupt public order and stability or the public’s confidence in the national judicial institution,” said the statement.
They also expressed their gratitude to the court officials. Muhyiddin had previously sued Anwar for RM200 million after claiming that the previous government failed to clear Felda settlers’ debt of RM8.3 billion.
Pakatan Harapan president Anwar filed a defamation suit against the Bersatu president for claiming that Anwar received a salary of RM15 million from the Selangor government while working as an economic advisor.
