KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Indian actor Kamal Haasan on Saturday expressed his gratitude to local Malaysian fans for their constant support for him.
70-year-old Kamal Haasan was in Malaysia to promote his much-anticipated film ‘Indian 2’, the sequel to his 1996 blockbuster flick ‘Indian’. He said the enthusiasm of his fans gave him the motivation and foundation with what he needed to succeed.

“Your unwavering support is the reason I stand before you today, dressed in this suit, which is why during every film release of mine, I make it a point to come all the way and meet all of you,” he said during Indian 2 film promotion at NU Sentral on Saturday.
The making of ‘Indian 2’ is a testament to the collective efforts of many people and is the culmination of their hard work and dedication, the three-time Indian national film award winner added.
Anticipation for ‘Indian 3’
He also expressed his deep gratitude to the film’s director Shankar, as well as producer Lyca Productions and distributor Red Giant Movies for their invaluable contributions to the project.

Kamal also openly revealed that the main reason for his approval of ‘Indian 2’ was his anticipation for ‘Indian 3’, the upcoming sequel and continuation of the ‘Indian’ film series.
“I’m a great admirer of the third instalment, and we plan to launch it shortly after the release of ‘Indian 2’,“ he said.
Legacy of ‘Indian’ and Political Career
Released in 1996, Indian stars Kamal as a retired freedom fighter who rebels against corruption in India, leading to a conflict with his son, who is involved in corrupt practices.
Upon its release, the film became the highest-grossing Tamil film and was India’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 1996 Academy Awards. However, it did not receive a nomination.
Recalling his political career, Kamal Haasan revealed that he had considered retiring from the film industry.
Balancing Cinema and Politics
“Upon entering politics, I considered leaving cinema to serve my people, but recognising your continued expectations, I decided to pursue both, prompting my return to acting,” he said.
The actor took a crucial step in his political career in 2018 by launching his party Makkal Needhi Maiam, marking a significant shift in his career towards a commitment to social change through active political engagement.
