BT21 Faces Backlash Over NewJeans Promotion

BT21 is a brand, created by BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan), that came under fire for promoting NewJeans in a recent post. The collaboration of the brand bt21 and new jeans sparked backlash took over social media.

One aspect of BTS’s image that ARMYs love is BT21, a collection of characters created for each of the group members, which has a variety of merchandise too.

Now, BT21 has become a brand and grown globally, but it is part of LINE FRIENDS, which has other collaborations, including with NewJeans. Netizens were not prepared to see an advertisement on BT21’s X page (formerly known as Twitter) promoting NewJeans’ products.

When the post was shared on June 18, netizens were shocked and angry. ARMYs felt that the account was trying to take “advantage” of BTS and their huge fame to promote another group’s products.

Ad Deleted Due To Backlash

The advertisement was deleted following the backlash.

On their X account, BT21 addressed the issue in both Korean and English. In the statement, they clarified that it was due to an error with settings that had been corrected, emphasizing that they were taking all steps to ensure it wouldn’t happen again.
