SINGAPORE: The SMRT driver has been suspended following the bus accident involving a worker near a construction site on Anson Road on June 27th (Thursday).
Videos emerged on social media showing the 33-year-old worker placing a traffic cone on the left-most lane of Anson Road, before turning his back to the traffic. The bus, turning in from Palmer Road, then hit and ran over him.
After the collision, the worker was able to sit up and stand with assistance from the bus driver and another worker.
Police said that they were informed about the accident around 5.25 pm and that the worker was consciously taken to the hospital. The worker sustained fractures to his right leg.
MOM Advises Safety Measures
According to the Reports, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) informed that the man, who was working as a traffic controller, sustained fractures to his right leg. He was taken to Singapore General Hospital after the accident.
The ministry said, “As a general safety measure, all road users must stay vigilant and keep a proper lookout of the surroundings when driving. Site personnel must also be conspicuously attired (eg high visibility vest) to enhance their visibility to road users.”
The injured worker’s employer is HSC Pipeline Engineering.

SMRT Suspends Driver Following The Bus Accident
SMRT announced the suspension of the 48-year-old male bus driver following the accident involving service 970, noting that there were no passengers on board at the time.
“Our dedicated Care Team is in contact with the worker to offer assistance and support,” said deputy managing director of SMRT Buses Vincent Gay, adding that it is assisting police with investigations.
