On May 9, a woman was charged with the murder of a 56-year-old man at around 1:30 am on May 8 in a unit at the Citigate Residences condominium on Beach Road.
However, during her court appearance, she claimed that it was a case of “manslaughter” and that she had not intended to commit murder.
The Suspects
Li Ye, a Chinese national, appeared in the state courts and was handed one charge of murder. The charges for the murder of Lim Lai Guan, who was 56 years old.
As per the police, it has been confirmed that both parties were involved in this incident. And they are known to each other but further details of their relationship have not been revealed.
Li, who is in remand, appeared in court via video link on Thursday. She was not represented by a lawyer.
A search with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority revealed that she is a shareholder of a company called Pingye that deals with the retail sale of items including clothes and footwear. The company is located in a unit at Parklane Shopping Mall on Selegie Road.
Police investigations are ongoing. If they found the woman guilty of murder, Li would face the death penalty.
