SINGAPORE – The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) reported that Local fish farms were not affected by the oil spill incident and local fish remained safe to eat on June 14th. The Netherlands-flagged dredging boat Vox Maxima and the Singapore-flagged bunker vessel Marine Honour collided at Pasir Panjang Terminal which caused oil to leak into the sea.
On June 16th, SFA said in a Facebook post that there is a low risk of the oil spill spreading to the Johor Strait, where Singapore’s fish farms are located.
“To date, none of our fish farms are affected by the oil spill, and our local fish remains safe for consumption,” said SFA, adding that it is staying in touch with the farms and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

There were 98 sea-based farms in 2023 according to SFA’s Singapore Food Statistics 2023.
On June 16TH, SFA updated that Singapore agencies responsible for cleaning up the oil spill reported that the ship Vox Maxima experienced a sudden loss of engine and steering control.
Additionally, there were no major reports of wildlife casualties in the oil-affected areas of St John’s and Lazarus islands on June 16. However, conservationists say they are on alert for the longer-term ramifications for nature, as it could take time for the impacts of oil spills to manifest.
