Singapore News: Preschool Teacher Alleged For Kicking 5-Year-Old Girl; Police Inquires

SINGAPORE: A five-year-old girl was allegedly kicked by a preschool teacher in the childcare centre on Apr 2, 2024. The preschool teacher was suspended after the childcare centre conducted investigations and the woman resigned later.

On 6th June (Thursday), the spokesperson for the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) told CNA that the incident happened on Apr 2 when a preschool teacher kicked the girl to make her sit properly in the childcare centre.

“The teacher subsequently resigned and has not worked in the preschool sector since”, ECDA said.

“ECDA has concluded investigations, and taken regulatory actions against the preschool operator and teacher involved. As police investigations are ongoing, we cannot comment further on the case details,” it added.

ECDA Measures for Child Safety

The Agency informed, that Preschools are required to report all serious incidents to ECDA that impact the safety of children and their staff within 24 hours of the occurrence of the incident.

ECDA added that they may ensure if any incidents involving possible mistreatment of children are reported through unannounced visits to preschools, interviews and verification of records, and “immediate actions” will be taken if the findings support the allegations.

The agency also highlighted that all preschool operators must have “systemic measures” to keep children safe. In August last year, ECDA announced that CCTVs would be required at all preschools by July 2024.
