Man Accused Of Pushing Victim Into River near Clarke Quay, Resulting In Drowning

SINGAPORE: A 21-year-old Indian national, Legha Pawan, was allegedly charged with Rash Act leading to Death After Pushing a Victim into the Singapore River near Clarke Quay on July 2nd , Tuesday. The accused pushed another man in such a way that the latter fell backward, hit the back of his head, and fell into the Singapore River off Clarke Quay where he drowned.

According to the reports, Legha pushed Mr Jasbir Singh, 33, on his chest around 10.15 pm on Sunday.

The incident happened at the riverside in front of Merchant Court and Clarke Quay Central Mall.

Consequently, Mr. Singh fell backward and struck the back of his head on the edge of the steps leading to the river, leading to his drowning. The police said in a previous statement that they received a SOS call for a man who had fallen into the river that night.

Clarke Quay Incident: Investigations And Charges

Divers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were sent to conduct an underwater search.

Mr. Singh’s body was recovered from the waters and he was declared dead at the scene.

The police identified Legha with the help of police cameras and CCTV footage. He was remanded for investigations after being charged.

If found guilty of causing death by a rash act, Legha could be jailed for up to five years, fined, or both.
